Technician Ace Chimney Sweeps

Does My Furnace & Boiler Flue Need To Be Inspected Every Year?

Yes, your furnace and boiler flue should be inspected every year by a professional chimney technician – just like your fireplace chimney. These systems vent dangerous gases like carbon monoxide, and over time, flue liners can deteriorate, become blocked, or develop leaks.

Annual inspections help ensure the system is venting as safely and efficiently as possible, and they catch potential hazards (things like corrosion, liner damage, or improper draft) before they become serious problems. This is especially important if your heating appliance was converted from oil to gas, or if the chimney also vents a water heater. Regular inspections help protect your home, your heating system, and your health.

Don’t Furnace Inspectors Cover This?

While your furnace technician checks the operation of the appliance itself during a tune-up, they typically do not inspect the entire flue or chimney system. Their focus is on the furnace or boiler itself: burners, heat exchangers, electrical components, and safety switches.

If the venting system is experiencing cracks, blockages, moisture damage, or drafting/airflow issues, these are things a certified chimney professional is trained to inspect and address.

In short: Your furnace tech ensures the appliance works. Your chimney pro ensures it vents safely.

Why Do Homeowners Trust Us?

At Ace Chimney Sweeps, we treat every home with the same care and respect we’d want for our own. From the moment we arrive, our focus is on keeping your space clean, protected, and undisturbed while we do our work. Here’s how we make that happen every day:

  • Each truck is stocked each day with fresh clean drop cloths.
  • Our vacuum cleaners are hand cleaned daily and filters are changed daily (sometimes several times a day).
  • We provide clean equipment, and systems to protect your home from tracking dirt in or even leaving fingerprints on your door knob.

What Happens During a Furnace Chimney Inspection?

  • Our techs lay fresh drop cloths in front of the work area before bringing in any equipment.
  • Any items of value placed around the furnace are removed or covered at your request.
  • We check the vent connection before sweeping the chimney to note any damages or concerns.
  • After we are certain the seal is airtight at the wall thimble, we proceed with a wire brushing of the flue.
  • The connector pipe is removed and excess soot is removed.
  • When all this is completed we reassemble everything and shovel and/or vacuum the creosote out of the chimney through the clean out area.
  • During the sweeping process a default level 1 inspection is being done which has a check list of over 65 items.
  • Once the sweeping and inspection are finished, if your chimney allows it, we check our work with a small tv camera that we put “INSIDE” the system, this will show you and us exactly how well the job is done.
  • We’ll share our findings with you – if something needs touched up you’ll know about it too!

We encourage you to participate in this procedure! Upon completion of the service the technicians will consult with you their findings and recommend a follow-up date for your next service.
When your paperwork comes back to the office it is reviewed by our senior staff, and any items that should be of interest to you will be forwarded in the form of a written report, complete with pictures.
